Due to the necessity of mercury removal from industrial waste to protect the environment, this study examines the impact of amino acids on mercury removal by amino acid-coated magnetic (Fe3O4) nanoparticles. Results demonstrated that with increasing temperature up to 55℃ at a constant PH, adsorption rate constant also increases. Examining thermodynamic parameters revealed that the adsorption of mercury is a process with spontaneous, endothermic, and mixing nature that consumes energy. Kinetic study of adsorption showed that coating nanoparticles leads to activation of acid sites in the intersection. Investigations on effects of retention time on the process of mercury removal showed that with increasing the retention time in a 100-minute range, efficiency of adsorption process increases at least 23%. © 2016 The Authors.
